In a time where quality of clothing is often compromised, Wallace Pring like to keep our message simple by providing the best quality and style for our customers. We choose brands with the utmost care, who share our passion for beautiful, natural materials tailored in a timeless yet contemporary style for both men and women.
Established 1979, we are one of the oldest independent retail shops in Whitstable. Our rich history has been rightly preserved and can be seen by our shops' striking architecture and shop decor.
About Us
Wallace Pring opened its doors in December 1979 by Alan and Diana Kennedy. Alan had been a fashion designer working in Carnaby streets' glory days as buyer in the era of BIBA, Mary Quant, Take Six, Burton to name but a few.
After a busy working life in fashion they had a vision to set up a small independent clothing store, using all the fashion contacts that they had built up over the years to sell designer samples to the local community. They just needed to find a shop in which to do it. Luckily at the centre of the enchanting seaside town of Whitstable; the iconic Harbour Buildings was available to purchase!
The building was given a big renovation, using many salvaged fittings from BiBA, Take Six and Bus Stop. When the shop originally opened, it spanned over three floors. Two floors were arranged to show clothing collections and the basement area was transformed into an ice cream parlour for local artists to hang out and grab an ice-cream or coffee.
After many wonderful years trading at the shop and showcasing many brands like French connection, Palladium & Marc O’ Polo. Alan & Diana decided to retire. They wanted the business to continue and now the family continue to run the shop with the same strong passion for high style, quality fashion.
Melena & Mirelle, daughters of Alan and Diana have now re-launched the business 39 years after its opening and strive to retain the strong values; showcasing brands of excellence in a striking building with top customer service.
What began as Wallace Pring later named The Whitstable Trader will now return to its history and trade again as Wallace Pring refining ideas from its past. Wallace Pring still sits at the heart of the bustling Harbour Street. Offering menswear, womenswear and accessories.
We aim to stand out as a unique independent store who offer timeless quality fashion and a memorable shopping experience.
